Smart lamp poles light up the new future of smart travel
On March 28, the "Report on the Coordinated Development of Vehicles, Roads and Cities and Benchmark Cases" released by the 2025 China Electric Vehicle Hundred People Forum showed that my country's pilot demonstration projects for the coordinated development of vehicles, roads and cities have achieved remarkable results and the construction results are beginning to show. In 2025, as the year of accelerated construction of "vehicle-road-cloud integration", pilot cities are speeding up the construction of intelligent networked vehicle infrastructure, striving to create a more sophisticated and comprehensive urban road intelligent perception system. In this process, smart lamp poles, with their unique advantages, are gradually becoming a key link in the coordinated development of vehicles, roads and cities.
Smart lamp poles can be called the "gorgeous transformation" of traditional lamp poles. On the basis of retaining the lighting function, it integrates street lamp lighting control system, LED information release, Wi-Fi coverage, video surveillance management, real-time environmental monitoring, emergency calls, manhole cover monitoring and 5G base stations and other functions. It is an uncompromising smart municipal infrastructure. Each smart lamp pole is like the "nerve endings" of a smart city, continuously transmitting all kinds of information data to the "city brain", providing strong support for urban governance and the development of intelligent connected vehicles.
In the coordinated development of vehicles, roads and cities, the vehicle-road cooperative assisted automatic driving function of smart light poles has attracted much attention. The smart camera it carries uses high-definition vision to collect real-time video information, which can assist in detecting road traffic information and effectively reduce the probability of accidents. For example, more than 300 smart light poles in the Tong'an Huandong Sea Area in Xiamen, Fujian Province, not only have common lighting, traffic signal indication and other functions, but also integrate vehicle-road cooperative functions. Through smart cameras, laser radars, millimeter-wave radars and RSU (roadside units) equipment, the surrounding traffic conditions and signal status can be accurately detected and sent to connected vehicles in real time, helping vehicles make more reasonable driving decisions and improve operating efficiency and safety.
From the perspective of the construction of an intelligent perception system for urban roads, smart light poles have obvious advantages. In the past, many cities had many street lamp poles and monitoring poles on their municipal roads, which not only affected the beauty of the city, but also made it difficult to meet the needs of mounting new infrastructure equipment. Smart lamp poles use a multi-functional integrated approach to integrate 5G base stations, cameras, LED display screens and other sensing devices into one and unify power distribution, realizing the integration of multiple poles, multiple boxes, multiple wells and multiple pipes, avoiding multiple excavations, saving underground pipeline space, optimizing road landscape, and greatly improving the perception of urban roads.
With the acceleration of the construction of "vehicle-road-cloud integration" in 2025, the application prospects of smart lamp poles will be broader. When pilot cities promote the construction of infrastructure related to intelligent connected vehicles, smart lamp poles will become an important entry point. On the one hand, smart lamp poles can be used to carry more intelligent connected devices to further enrich the vehicle-road collaborative function; on the other hand, a large amount of traffic, environmental and other data collected by smart lamp poles can be analyzed and processed by the "city brain", which can provide a scientific basis for urban traffic planning and intelligent connected vehicle operations, and promote the development of vehicle-road-city collaboration to a higher level.
